History

1949

Mr Kazuharu Nakamura founds his company TOYOTOMI KOGYO CO., LTD., where he starts to press steel body parts for TOYOTA, enabled by iconic and former President of TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION Mr Taizo Ishida.

The name TOYOTOMI is derived from the words TOYOTA and TOMI, which means “Loyal to Toyota” in Japanese and which underlines the gratitude from Mr Nakamura towards TOYOTA, how they supported him in the early years to start his own company.

At the same time TOYOTOMI refers to the famous general Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536-1598), coincidentally Mr Nakamura was born in the same town and on the same day, as this illustrious person in Japanese history.

1952

Soon afterwards, when TOYOTA Motors was facing a bad financial situation and in danger of bankruptcy, Mr Nakamura decided to diversify by developing under his own brandname TOYOTOMI a kerosene cooking stove and heater, which was distributed in Japan through their own sales channel.

This was the beginning of a very successful business of developing and producing products using kerosene as its main energy source, next to the steel pressing activity for TOYOTA Motors Co.

1958 – 1969

TOYOTOMI becomes the first manufacturer of kerosene heaters with infrared glass burner, awarded by the Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) for outstanding performance of industrial standardization and quality control.

During this period several plants were completed in Japan, each JIS approved for manufacturing different type of kerosene heating appliances, like wick-fed, gravity-fed, or pot-type heaters),

TOYOTOMI continued to develop more reliable, more efficient and safer products, resulting in the launch of the world’s first Double Clean heater, which was a new concept burner chimney forcing the exhaust gases to be burned once again in an upper combustion chamber.

This invention resulted in TOYOTOMI to become the first Japanese manufacturer to receive the Consumer Product Development Award from the U.S. national safety council.

1970

After several years of only producing mechanical products TOYOTOMI started the production of electrical devices including kerosene fan heaters, electric heating appliances, ceramic fan heaters, but also electric lawn mowers or bathtub water heaters.

1971 – 1992

During this period the number of companies within the TOYOTOMI GROUP expands rapidly within Japan but also worldwide.

The automotive activities become TOYOTOMI KIKO, with factories in Japan, United States, France and Thailand.

The kerosene appliances business are managed by TOYOTOMI CO., LTD. with overseas offices in the United States and the Netherlands.

At the same time TOYOTOMI begins a large and very successful export business of their kerosene heating appliances, resulting as of 1992 in distributing to more than 100 countries worldwide.

1993

Although already present in the air conditioning business in domestic market as of 1988, the development and production in 1993 of the portable air conditioner model TID-1800 puts TOYOTOMI on the map as a reputable Japanese manufacturer for air conditioning products. The outspoken compact design and its quit operation because of the introduction of the rotary compressor, guarantee a unique product that is sold all over the world and has been copied many times afterwards.

1994 – 2018

TOYOTOMI continues to develop during this period a wide range of air conditioning products, of the highest standard which guarantee a perfect, efficient and environmentally friendly heating and cooling of the air. The advanced INVERTER technology used in TOYOTOMI air conditioning systems, meets the highest requirements of energy saving, ensuring high performance with low energy consumption.

2019

TOYOTOMI CO., LTD. established in Nagoya – Japan in 1949, celebrates its 70th anniversary. It now holds a 46 percent market share of paraffin heaters distributed in Japan and the world combined, with in total more than 65 million units sold.

2020

The TOYOTOMI Group manufactures a wide range of products, including auto parts for TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY, office furniture, kerosene heaters, pellet stoves and is developing a wide range of OEM built air conditioning and heat pumps systems.

For the satisfaction of their customers worldwide, TOYOTOMI has always kept improving the quality of their products and in near future is working hard to adapt existing products or develop new products in line with TOYOTOMI’s vision on sustainable energies.
